Scoliosis<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0consists of a curvature of the spine<\/strong> as well as a rotation of the vertebral bodies<\/strong>.\u00a0A spinal curvature of at least 10 degrees<\/strong> is considered scoliosis, however that curve size would not show any signs or symptoms<\/strong>. As the curve progresses to 20 degrees or beyond<\/strong>, there is a bigger chance that the patient might notice abnormalities;<\/strong> such as the body titling to one side<\/strong>.\u00a0The cause of this\u00a0is actually unknown<\/strong>, and is not due to carrying heavy books or sleeping on the side.<\/p>\n

Minimally Invasive Scoliosis Surgery<\/strong> is a type of procedure done to fix scoliosis <\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>helps to correct an abnormal curve<\/strong>. During the surgery, a device called the tubular retractor<\/a><\/em> is inserted into the back which lets the surgeon reach the spine with small tools<\/strong>. The surgeon then\u00a0attaches rods and screws<\/strong> to the spine to help make it straighter<\/strong>. This is a new procedure mostly used for children and is not yet available everywhere. However, it is very effective<\/strong> and reduces the abnormal curve<\/strong> in the spine to prevent<\/strong> it from progressing further and getting worse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
