Breathalyzer Can Detect Diseases<\/span><\/h1>

The Nanose<\/a>, developed in Israel analyses<\/strong> your breath<\/strong> and can detect illnesses<\/strong> such as cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Hossam Haick , Professor of Chemical Engineering and Nanotechnologythe explains that one of today’s biggest challenges<\/strong> is that it is very difficult<\/strong> to diagnose<\/strong> a disease<\/strong> when\u00a0a person still feels healthy.\u00a0He therefore built this device to facilitate<\/strong> the way we diagnose<\/strong> a disease with just a single<\/strong> breath<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Nanose<\/strong> started out as the idea to try to imitate dog’s<\/strong> olfactory system<\/strong>, their receptors<\/strong> and brain<\/strong>. Diseases have patterns of molecules in the breath, so if you can detect<\/strong> these molecules<\/strong>, you can associate<\/strong> them with a specific<\/strong> disease<\/strong>. Therefore, the Nanose<\/strong> enables patients to just blow<\/strong> and detect<\/strong> the disease<\/strong> from their breath<\/strong>. For example, if a patient breathes<\/strong> in and the \u00ab\u00a0smell<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb of their breath is sweet<\/strong>, it could detect<\/strong> that they have diabetes<\/strong>. The device<\/strong> still needs major improvements<\/strong>, but it\u00a0could revolutionise<\/strong> the way we detect<\/strong>\u00a0illnesses<\/strong> in the near future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
