Although, 59% of those cases are preventable, oesophageal cancer is very hard to detect, and screening methods are quite invasive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Researchers from the <strong>University of Cambridge<\/strong> have created something called the \u201c<strong>Cytosponge<\/strong>\u201d to <strong>detect Barret\u2019s Oesophagus early on<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Barret\u2019s Oesophagus<\/strong> is a condition where the cells in the lining of the oesophagus begin to <strong>change shape and grow abnormally<\/strong>. This condition <strong>increases a person\u2019s chance of having oesophageal cancer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBarrett\u2019s oesophagus and the cancer share many mutations, but we are now a step closer to understanding which are the <strong>important mutations<\/strong> that tip the condition over into a <strong>potentially deadly form of cancer<\/strong>,\u201d said co-author Dr Caryn Ross-Innes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>pill attached to a string<\/strong> would dissolve into a sponge after a patient swallows it. It would then be pulled through the throat lining, collecting cells. Which can then be tested.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks to samples beaing drawn from a large area, chances of detection would be <strong>improved<\/strong>.
