Established following the Paris Charter Against Cancer, World Cancer Day has become a key moment to mobilize the global cancer community.

The current three‑year campaign theme, “United by Unique” (2025–2027), highlights that every cancer journey is different — biologically, socially, and personally — while progress depends on collective action. It calls for a more people‑centred approach to cancer care, supported by science, innovation, and strong leadership.

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death globally, with millions of lives affected each year. At the same time, research shows that a significant proportion of cancers are preventable, and survival continues to improve thanks to advances in prevention, diagnostics, and treatment. Across the world, conferences, awareness campaigns, and community initiatives mark this day and reinforce the importance of early detection and access to care.

The role of professionals and leaders

Progress in oncology is not only a scientific challenge — it is also a leadership one. Building strong teams and resilient organizations accelerates discovery, improves outcomes, and strengthens healthcare systems.

At the centre of all these efforts are the patients, whose resilience and strength continue to inspire the entire ecosystem.

Getting involved

Professionals can mark World Cancer Day by sharing a personal or organizational commitment, highlighting innovation or leadership in oncology, supporting awareness initiatives, or engaging with the global campaign via WorldCancerDay.org.

Strammer — Supporting leadership that advances science.

On World Cancer Day, we recognize the researchers, clinicians, and leaders advancing prevention, diagnostics, and treatment — and the patients who remain at the heart of all progress.

#WorldCancerDay #UnitedByUnique #Oncology #LifeSciencesLeadership #HealthcareInnovation

References

World Cancer Day – Campaign & Theme (United by Unique, 2025–2027)

Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) – World Cancer Day Overview

Global Cancer Burden & Trends – WHO / IARC (Global Cancer Observatory)

Today is World Cancer Day, a global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to raise awareness, support people affected by cancer, and promote prevention, early detection, and effective treatment worldwide.
