Today is World Cancer Day, a global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to raise awareness, support people affected by cancer, and promote prevention, early detection, and effective treatment worldwide. Established following the Paris Charter Against Cancer, World Cancer Day has become a key moment to mobilize the global cancer community.
The current three‑year campaign theme, “United by Unique” (2025–2027), highlights that every cancer journey is different — biologically, socially, and personally — while progress depends on collective action. It calls for a more people‑centred approach to cancer care, supported by science, innovation, and strong leadership.
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death globally, with millions of lives affected each year. At the same time, research shows that a significant proportion of cancers are preventable, and survival continues to improve thanks to advances in prevention, diagnostics, and treatment. Across the world, conferences, awareness campaigns, and community initiatives mark this day and reinforce the importance of early detection and access to care.
